17 - 18 May Greenwood Lake, NY

Beautiful hiking day with temps in the low 70s.

Saw one deer and three snakes.  One was probably a rattlesnake but I only saw it briefly before it disappeared under a rock.  We crossed Prospect Rock which is the highest point on the AT in NY.

I had a tough day hiking - some leg pain but I walked slowly and carefully.  It is frustrating knowing we need to do more miles per day.  But at least we are still moving.

Arrived here yesterday afternoon.  Had a great Italian sub at Delicious Deli.  We were also steered to the Linden Motel.  We have a room with a view of the lake - watching it rain now.

Taking another zero day.   Alternating hot and cold on my leg and giving it a rest, hoping it will heal enough so I can walk normally.

  1. Hi Hal and Wendy,
Sorry to hear your leg is bothering you, Hal! We had a really strange beach house experience Saturday night. Susan, Alex, Susan's mother and Susan's brother from CA got down to the house @1:30 am. To discover a car in the driveway and lights on in the house. They called the police who came quickly and arrested a man and a woman who had made themselves at home. It turned out that two people had broken into the house and were having there own mini vacation. They had loaded their car with random items from the house, i.e. four table knives, sheets and towels, the little umbrellas for beach drinks, glitter glue, etc.... NOW HERE IS THE STRANGE PART: We now know that the woman's name is Sarah Polk. She is 31 and is from Stanardsville. A missing person's form had been processed on her by her parents. All is well, and everything that was taken was returned. Needless to say, I'm going down this weekend to change the locks and block all of the windows from the inside. Both perps are in jail on 10 and 15 thousand dollar bonds and are being charged with felony B&E and felony larceny. The house was not trashed, but they did clean out the liquor cabinet. Thought you would find this interesting. I love reading your posts! Thanks for letting us enjoy your travels. Miss you!
    Beth
