Sun 17 Oct - Damascus, VIRGINIA

Beautiful!  Much warmer, high in low 70s.  Hiking in shirt sleeves.

We are in Virginia!  13 states done, 1 to go.  Damascus was crazy when we arrived.  The beautiful weather, leaves turning, and all the bicycle trails,  and the tourists overran this little town.

Beautiful, short hike today.  This morning, the clouds were in the valley at sunrise.  We hiked along the ridge watching the clouds, then descended to Watauga dam.  This is one of the largest "earthen" dams and is run by the TVA.  It creates Watauga Lake that we saw from the shelter.  We hiked around the lake the rest of the way to the car and got back to Damascus by 3:00.

Out for two days north tomorrow before some possible bad weather.
