22 July - Andover, ME, Pine Ellis Lodge

Hiked from Grafton Notch Rt. 26 to East B Hill Rd.

Cool and foggy this morining. Cleared in the afternoon. High 70.

Hiked up and over Bald Pate. It was cool, almost cold. Very foggy so views were limited but it cleared later in the day. Trail was better - still steep at times but more "normal" trail each day. We hiked 10+ miles today in less than 8 hours including breaks. As planned, Wendy, Flatlander, and I are hiking with Capt. Bly and Plans Too Much. It was nice to come down the mountain to a car and have drinks waiting. We slack pack again tomorrow. And dinner tonight at the Moose Tale Brewery! (Ilene told us about this place.)

We heard a few days ago that a guy died last Sunday hiking on Mount Washington. He was at a cliff on a waterfall and fell. We heard today that another guy at Mount Katahdin fell. He was a reporter and also out on a cliff. He landed on a ledge. They closed the mountain and were able to rescue him. I do not know if these stories are true but that is the word on the trail.
