07 Aug - Cloud Pond Lean-to

COLD!  It is August and this morning was in the low 40s.  Warmed to the low to mid 60s and partly sunny.

Today at lunch we crossed the 100 mile (remaining) mark.  We now have less than 95 miles to Katahdin.

More ponds,  lakes,  and even.
another waterfall.   There were also two more fords but the water is so low that we could rock hop across.

We summited Barren Mountain to arrive at Cloud Pond.  Very nice campsites and a full lean-to.

Tomorrow we do Chairback which is the other half of the Barren-Chairback Range.    There was a woman at Shaw's who had fallen on Chairback Mtn. and broken her arm.  (She was waiting at Shaw's until she could drive home.)  Apparently she broke her leg last year on the trail and needed a helicopter rescue.  And these were her 4th and 5th broken bones while hiking.  She said this was her last time.

I think we will have a fire tonight.
