Beautiful weather today - fluffy white clouds, high in low 70s.
Great trail for hiking too. We saw small waterfalls on the Pleasant River, and many lakes including Crawford Pond. We finished coming down off White Cap crossed another small hill and had mostly rolling, flat land to cross. We made it to our target shelter at 11.7 miles by 1:30 and decided to continue. At 5:30 we reached a potential campsite and again moved on. At 6:15 we reached a campsite on Jo Mary Lake for a total of 20 mi. (19.6 on the AT plus several side trails). That is our biggest day ever (Flatlander and Capt. Bly have had bigger days).
Flatlander and Capt. Bly both passed their 2100 mile mark yesterday. We passed our 1100th mile since 02 April earlier today. We all have 51.8 miles left to Katahdin.
We are camping on a peninsula in Jo Mary Lake. When we arrived a hiker named Poppins was already here. Turns out he hiked with Flatlander last year. He completed his thru-hike last year. He hiked the International AT this year (beyond Katahdin and into Canada) and now is just hiking to spend time in the woods in pretty spots.
Tonight we are listining to the sounds of the loons and hoping to see moose early in the morning. Laying in the tent, I can see the stars and in the morning I will be able to see sunrise over the lake from my sleeping bag. Earlier we picked wild blueberries. Poppins gave Wendy some Indian Cucumber.
A short day (nero) tomorrow as we hike to the boat dock for Whitehouse Landing.
